비겁한 자에게-마음의 소리를!
나야말로, 언니야, 바로 비겁함이야, 이건 완전히 나를 두고서 나온 말이야. 그리고 나의 지난 과거는 전부 이런 일의 연속이었지, 현명한 언니도 이런 선택을 멀리해 지금처럼 매끄러운 삶 속에서도 헛헛함을 느끼는 거야. 이건 마음의 소리야, 마음의 소리는 시끄럽거든, 아니 시끄러움 그 이상이지! 열망이란 말이야, 자극적이고도 이상적인 것이야! 자극적이라 함은 나를 자꾸 당기고 떠민다는 것이고, 이상적이라 함은 안온한 삶과는 거리가 있다는 뜻이지. 여기서 세상의 소리는 다 들어도, 내 소리만은 듣지 않는 거야.
